Leatherwood CMR vs Primary Arms 1-4×24 Illuminated Reticle Scopes
Fun Gun Reviews Presents: The Leatherwood CMR 1-4×24 comparision to the Primary Arms 1-4×24 Scope. Both have Illuminated reticles with 30mm tubes. Even though the same basic features, these two optics are for two different shooters. This review is to help you find the best one for your needs. @roy993. Based on battery life, Red last longer.?
@sootch00 Hi! Can you tell me what colour of the dot is better, green or red? I mean, what would do better in daylight? Or it does not matter at all, because in daylight the black dot? is all you need?
@shinli00?
@TweakRacer Agreed! My? bad! John
@skyhop Well put. You have the right idea, I have shot quite a bit with this? Primary Arms scope in the last few weeks, at close range & out to 375 yards, and it has become one of my favorites. I really like the 1-4 range. With the reticle and at 1X, it does act like a red dot, but you have the option to go to 4X for longer shots. It’s the best of both worlds for me. High quality, great glass & and awesome customer supprt from Marshall. I love it! Be safe! John
@klink708
Why do you need to see the illumination in daylight? It’s there solely to allow you to see the reticle when the black reticle blends into a dark background under low light. Just how things work on? upper end optics, it isn’t an aimpoint, nor is it trying to be.
At 100 yards, out of the DMS1, I was shooting below 1moa.
I could accurately tell when I pulled the trigger where shots were going to land, even when we’re talking about that small of a group.
I think some of the DMS hate here is unwarranted? as it’s one of the more precise reticles I’ve ever used. The glass isn’t amazing, but WOW is it precise. The only complaint I have is the sight picture size, it’s nothing like my leupold VXR at all.
I also looked at the Millet DMS and the optics? were horrible.
I watched a video between a 1-8 Schmidt and Bender vs the Leopold Mark 8. The Mark 8 cost over 4k and they could not even see the red dot in day light. 4K someone is on crack!!! Does anyone know whether you can see? the dot on the CMR during the day. Also I was dreaming of the new IOR 1.5-8 CQB super bright. But that is a thousand more than the CMR.. I think for the price I will try the CMR. It sounds like I will be happy and can save a thou…
Not “1 by 4″, it’s “1? to 4 magnification”.
I’m inclined to believe the dollar value is with any scope and the CMR 1X4X24 is a great value. Seems many of the well known quality scope manufactures are accommodating the? average shooter with excellent options.
We appreciate the great review!
My AR is set up currently for CQB, it’s running the Bushnell TRS-25 red dot. I’m looking to give myself more range without taking away the CQB option. I’m impressed with your video on the Leatherwood CMR 1-4×24 scope and want to know if the Leatherwood CMR 1-4×24 provides the same CQB function (both eye open)? as a red dot while giving the added med/long range option.
Nice to see this comparison, as I am in between them for ipsc shooting with my ar15. But i have seen the CMR scope, and as you say, its good glas and a sturdy scope, but the illumination on it was not visible in daylight? conditions. Could you tell me if the PA scope had a visible illuminated red dot in daylight? And what netstore ship them overseas?
your review was awesome, my question is I want to try and get the best? of both world’s I want a CQB optic as well as long range. How does the CMR work in the role of a CQB red dot?
One repair note on the CMR–
I recently found that the control knob for the illuminated reticle on? my CMR had loosened and was wobbly. After taking it apart I found that I could fix the problem easily. If you have a similar problem you can take a look at the “Leatherwood CMR1424 Fix” video on my YouTube site to see how to repair it.
Hope this may help.
I’m running the CMR1424 on a Rock River AR-15 that’s outfitted with full ambidextrous controls. (I shoot rifle lefty, but pistol right handed– go figure.)
In run&gun shooting the CMR works great and gives you the zoom range needed for 3-gun competition. It replaced the dual optic set-up I ran previously. You can see both set-ups on my channel if interested. Overall, I think the CMR is a great high-value option. Thanks for making me aware? of it!
All the best Sootch.
@hambone2111 I was just about to post the same thing when I read yours. I cant believe it has shot up over a 100.00$ in? 9 months or less.
@hambone2111 OUCH! I was just on SWFA’s site last month checking out the Leatherwood CMR scope and it was $250.00! WOW! Guess if I do go with the Leatherwood I’ll go with the package deal P.E.P.R included.
? Damn supply and demand!!! ARGH!
@shaokem looks like the demand for this has gone up. It was running for $249 when this vid? was posted, and for some time after. Not sure when the price jumped up but it has. SWFA has it for less then Midway right now. SWFA Has it for $329 just the scope or $349 with the P.E.P.R mount. Right now that is out of my budget but really a great deal even at the higher price. Compare the price of even a Weaver 1-4x the CMR is a good deal but it looks like I will be settling for the Primary Arms for now.
Your link for the $249.99 CMR scope is wrong! Just thought you’d like to know…?
Hello Sootch00, in reference to the 3″ eye relief of the CMR, any problems? with that?
Also, how visible is the CMR’s green reticle, would a red one be better? Thanks.
please more details on the turret locking system. Do you mean you lock them they don’t turn at? all? Most scopes I know of with target type knobs, will let you zero the scope on target then you set the covers to zero. You can then make elevation and windage adjustments for the distance to target and shooting conditions. Some have a push down to lock feature so the knobs won’t turn inadvertently. As a former Marine I want control of my Sight/scope settings.
Thanks for the vid Sootch
@badman400? It’s a private range in NC… John
That wouldn’t be the DNR range in Pickens SC would it? I’ve put a few rounds down range at that one. The back drop and the 100 yd range looks very much? like the one I frequent.
What ever happened? to testing this scope w/ an AK? I didn’t see that video.
